Akinjentan Seeks Students’ Leaders Support, Declares For Ogun NANS Chairmanship
ABEOKUTA – A student of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education , Ijagun, Ogun State, Comrade Akinjentan Hammed Emmanuel has sought for the support of students leaders in the state following his official declaration to contest for the Chairmanship of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC).
At a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting held at the NLC Secretariat in Abeokuta on Thursday, where a broad coalition of student leaders, activists, and institutional representatives gathered to publicly back his candidacy, Akinjentan annoumced to prioritize student’s welfare if elected.
Recall that, the National Senate of the NANS in Nigeria, last month ratified the removal of ex-Ogun JCC/NANS Chairman, Comrade Francis Ajibola and four others over ineligibility to hold NANS office.
This development, left vacuum in the office of the NANS leadership in Ogun State.
Some of the student leaders from various higher institutions across Ogun State described the move as a collective effort to unify the student body under purposeful and inclusive leadership.
Comrade Akinjentan, a postgraduate student, is widely recognized for his previous tenure as President of the institution’s Students’ Union.
During his time in office, he earned a reputation for prioritizing student welfare, promoting academic stability, and maintaining constructive engagement with school authorities.
Addressing supporters at the event, Akinjentan outlined his vision for the NANS Ogun JCC, pledging to lead with transparency, diligence, and accountability.
He emphasized the need for improved funding in the education sector, particularly in infrastructure development, and vowed to advocate policies that enhance both academic standards and student welfare.
“Education is a right, not a privilege,” he stated, stressing the importance of ensuring access to quality education for all students regardless of systemic challenges.
Stakeholders present at the gathering noted that the endorsement reflects growing confidence in his leadership abilities and signals a united front among student leaders determined to reposition the association as a stronger voice for students in Ogun State.
Akinjentan also used the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of past and current NANS executives, commending their efforts in advancing students’ rights and expressing optimism about the future of the association.
