Alleged Anti-Party Activities: Expel Gbenga Daniel, Strip Him Of Senate Seat, Arabambi Urges APC
ABEOKUTA – A political pressure group, Sustainability of Governor Dapo Abiodun Legacy and Ogun State Beyond 2027, has called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to expel former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), over alleged anti-party activities.
The group’s Convener, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday, arguing that recent allegations surrounding a leaked audio recording had raised serious questions about Daniel’s loyalty to the ruling party.
Arabambi alleged that the audio, which has circulated on social media, suggested that Daniel held discussions with opposition figures on strategies to frustrate the political ambitions of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), whom the APC has endorsed as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State.
According to him, the alleged conversation contradicted Daniel’s public endorsement of Adeola and amounted to a betrayal of both the party and its leadership.
He maintained that while his statement was not intended as a defense of Senator Adeola or an attack on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful Hon. Ladi Adebutu or Chief Kensington Adebutu, it was aimed at drawing attention to what he described as the need for accountability within the APC.
Arabambi alleged that Daniel had repeatedly engaged in anti-party activities, citing previous allegations that he directed supporters to back opposition candidates during past elections despite remaining a member of the APC.
He argued that the party must no longer tolerate what he described as “double allegiance” and urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to take decisive action to preserve party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The APC cannot afford to have members who publicly endorse the party’s candidate while allegedly working behind the scenes to undermine the same individual,” he stated.
The convener further dismissed the response issued by Daniel’s media office, which reportedly described the leaked audio as manipulated and called for security agencies to investigate its circulation.
According to Arabambi, the denial failed to address what he described as the core issues raised by the alleged recording.
He, therefore, urged the Ogun State chapter of the APC to begin disciplinary proceedings against the senator and recommend his expulsion to the party’s National Working Committee.
Arabambi also called for Daniel to resign both his membership of the APC and his position as senator representing Ogun East if he could no longer remain loyal to the party.
He further urged the APC leadership at the national level to demonstrate zero tolerance for anti-party activities irrespective of the political status of those involved.
The convener also appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to protect what he described as the governor’s historic opportunity to become the first elected governor in Ogun State to successfully hand over power to a successor from the same political party.
He reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027 and Governor Abiodun’s succession plan, insisting that both political projects must succeed.
“The party must demonstrate that it has zero tolerance for anti-party activities, regardless of the status of the individual involved by expelling him.
“The leaked audio is not just a scandal; it is a test of character. It is a test of whether Governor Dapo Abiodun has the courage to do what is right, even when it is difficult. It is a test of whether the APC has the will to discipline its own members, even when they are powerful. It is a test of whether Nigerian politics can rise above the culture of impunity that has long plagued it.
“As for Senator Gbenga Daniel, the writing is on the wall. He cannot continue to play both sides and expect to escape unscathed. The devil, as they say, is in the details, and the details of this audio are damning. If there are mortal men who can lie about Satan, then Satan himself may abandon hell for them. But in this case, Daniel is not lying about Satan; he is lying about his own party, his own candidate, and his own people.
“And that is a sin that even the devil cannot forgive. Governor Abiodun must hold the bull by the horn. The time for equivocation is over. The time for action is now. The people of Ogun State are watching, and history will judge him by the decisions he makes in the coming day.”
