ABEOKUTA – Popular Abeokuta-based highlife musician Adeyinka Adeboye, also known as Boye Best, has paid a glowing tribute to his late colleague, Saint Janet, describing her death as a painful loss to the Nigerian highlife music industry.
Saint Janet was reportedly dead at the early hours of Friday following a brief illness.
Boye, while performing on Monday at the interactive session with the APC governorship candidate, Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, by the Ogun State Teachers held at Ake Palace ground, used the occasion to mourn the late singer, noting that Saint Janet’s passion for highlife music, humility and commitment to entertaining fans earned her admiration across the South-West and beyond.
According to him, the late singer dedicated her life to preserving the rich cultural heritage of Yoruba highlife music through her unique style, energetic stage performances and inspiring lyrics.
“It is difficult to accept that Saint Janet is no longer with us. She was a talented musician whose music brought joy to many people. Her death is a huge loss, not only to her family but also to all lovers of highlife music,” Boye Best said.
He prayed for God to grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort her family, friends, band members and numerous fans during the period of mourning.
Boye Best urged fellow musicians to uphold the values of unity and mutual support, stressing that the late Saint Janet would always be remembered for her contributions to the growth of indigenous music in Nigeria.
The musician also called on lovers of highlife music to celebrate Saint Janet’s legacy by keeping his songs alive and drawing inspiration from her dedication to the profession.
Boye Best, who has built a reputation as one of the notable contemporary highlife performers from Ogun State, said the memories and musical contributions of Saint Janet would remain indelible in the hearts of those who knew and appreciated his works.
