Corps Member Dies In Osun NYSC Orientation Camp

OSOGBO – A corps member, identified as Bright, has died at the orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ede, Osun State. Bright’s colleagues, who had been thrown into shock by his death, revealed this on their social media handles.

Narrating the events that led to his death, a corps member, who is currently in camp, Lawrence Echezona, said Bright died in his sleep over the weekend.

A post by Echezona of which he attached Bright’s picture reads: “It’s a pity for us in Ede camp. May your soul rest in peace, Bright. He slept the day before yesterday and didn’t wake up in the morning.”

In another response in the comment section, one Ekpueke Mathew, wrote: “RIP Corper Bright, who died during his orientation programme at Ede camp, Osun State.”

The state’s Public Relations Officer, NYSC, Funmi Okundaye, reportedly confirmed the incident, but refrained from giving further details about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Okunade reportedly said: “What you read was that a corps member passed on in his sleep? That was exactly what happened; there is no other thing to add. Nothing to add or remove from it.”

When contacted on the telephone by The Guardian, yesterday, the Coordinator for the NYSC in Osun State, Agbor Ndoma Obim, queried our correspondent for calling him to inquire about the circumstances leading to the corps member’s death.

Obim refused to confirm the death or provide any useful information, rather, he directed our correspondent to social media for information, saying, “Go to the social media and find out.”
