LAGOS – Members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikosi-Isheri area of Lagos State have called for the sack of Mrs Samiat Bada as the Local Council Development Area chairperson over alleged anti-party and diversion of public fund.
The aggrieved party members in a petition written to the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Speaker, the State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, gave detailed on the allegation against council chair, Mrs. Bada.
According to the petitioners, Bada, whose husband is a candidate of opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun for 2023 election, is accused of using the council’s fund to prosecute her husband’s campaign.
Speaking during a protest staged at the entrance of the State House of Assembly, APC leader in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Otunba Odufowokan Oluwaseyi said the protest became necessary in order to expose Bada alleged diversion of public funds.
“These are concerned people of Ikosi-Isheri. We are here to protest against our council chairperson atrocity. The way she has been running the affairs of the council is dangerous to the aspiration of Asiwaju Tinubu.
“She has been sponsoring candidates in Ogun State against APC. She has decided to be holding party meetings inside the council’s secretariat. How will a council chairperson be controlling the affairs of the council and at the same time wants to control the party?” he asked.
Oluwaseyi also alleged that Bada had been very disrespectful to the leaders of the party, urging the state governor to urgently intervene before the crisis snowball beyond control.
Also speaking, the party’s secretary in the area, Mr Olawole Michael said “the council chairperson has been harassing us. I have video evidence to show. She is running the council in a disorder manner. We want the governor to sack her before it is too late.”
Addressing the protesters, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Obasa, who spoke through the lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency I, Bisi Yusuff, thanked the them for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner, noting that the House would look into the matter.
He said: “We thank you for being orderly. I’m here on behalf of Mr Speaker and I will deliver your message. The House will intervene.
“You have to be patient and be peaceful as you agitate so that hoodlums won’t hijack the protest and use it against you,” he pleaded.
