CSR: TRACE Corps Provides Palliative For Damaged Ota Road
ABEOKUTA – As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, officers of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), last week embarked on community service in Ado-Odo/Ota local government, filling wide potholes at Roundabout NITEL Junction state with broken stones.
Our reporter who captured the exercise reports that operatives of the traffic control outfit, led by Commander Victoria Olaoke, Head of Operations 2, was the cynosure of all eyes penultimate week, when they started gathering and breaking stones, moving them to the roundabout which had almost become impassable due to continuous rainfall.
It was gathered that on the instruction of the TRACE Area Commander, Ogun West, Ajibade Adekunle, Commander Olaoke led other operatives out as early as 7 am to ensure the hitherto waterlogged wide potholes were filled up with stones to ensure easy passage by motorists in the axis.
While some Operatives strategically positioned themselves on the road, controlling and managing the traffic situation, others were busy breaking and filling the potholes with stones with assistance of volunteered members of the community in the area.
Traffic was diverted with patrol van, water- Cones and Caution tape.
Responding, Commander Ajibade said the exercise was mandated by the TRACE Corps Commander, ‘Seni Ogunyemi who directed that all Area Commanders to go beyond traffic control and ensure some palliative measures of filling potholes in their jurisdiction be made.
He said TRACE has recorded many crashes at the NITEL roundabout due to impatience of some motorists to go through the normal way, blaming their actions on potholes.
“We are very much aware that the state government has concluded plans to fix the road, what we are doing are just palliative measures pending the rehabilitation by the government.
“TRACE is doing this to enable our job of traffic control easy and reduce crashes on our road in line with the mantra ‘safety on the road is everybody’s responsibility’.
“Let me seize this opportunity to advise motorists to be more careful at the wheel, avoid driving against the traffic, aka ‘one way, and obey traffic regulation. This will render to nothing the myth surrounding’ ember months as dangerous months”, he said.
