ABEOKUTA — The Egba Economic Summit (EES) held its 2026 second quarter general meeting on Saturday in Abeokuta, bringing together key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for advancing the economic development of Egbaland.
The Egba Economic Summit Group is a think tank dedicated to promoting the socio-economic advancement of Egbaland and its people.
The meeting, presided over by the President of the Summit, Dr. Gbenga Adeoye, was marked by a high level of intellectual engagement, reflected the group’s commitment to policy dialogue and regional progress.
Members in attendance included Dr. Gbenga Adeoye, Bldr. Abiodun Karounwi, Dr. Kehinde Sogunle, Dr. Lanre Biobaku, Mrs. Bunmi Lawson, Mr. Femi Fadahunsi, and Mr. Lateef Surakatu.
In his welcome address, Dr. Adeoye expressed appreciation to members for their dedication and sacrifices toward the development of Egbaland.
He also formally welcomed a new member, Dr. Lanre Biobaku, encouraging him to leverage his academic expertise in Communication Management to support the Summit’s objectives.
He emphasized the critical role of effective communication in shaping public perception and driving development.
Adeoye emphasized the need to keep in touch with all Egba Sons and daughters holding any important position, whether elected or appointed; from the state or Federal level, encouraging them to use their position for the development of Egbaland.
Key issues discussed at the meeting included the need to monitor the implementation of the 2026 budget in Egbaland to ensure accountability and impact.
The Summit also stressed the importance of providing advisory support to maximize the economic benefits of the annual Lisabi Festival.
Members further advocated for the promotion of Adire/Kampala fabric as a signature attire of the Egba people, recommending its widespread adoption, including as Aso Ebi for events across the region.
The group also underscored the importance of maintaining strong engagement with Egba indigenes in influential positions at both state and federal levels, urging them to contribute meaningfully to regional development.
The Summit agreed to accelerate progress on its ongoing regional master plan by engaging the technical team responsible for the project, which is expected to provide an update in May.
Additionally, Builder Abiodun Karounwi was tasked with monitoring developments at the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, with members encouraged to support the institution in various capacities.
