Excise Duty Payment Will Enhance Economic, Social Advancement – Ogun Customs Area Controller

ABEOKUTA – The Customs Area Controller, Ogun II Area Command, Compt. Olusola Alade has enjoined industries in Ogun state to pay their excise duty in other to attract development and other social amenities for their business to thrive.

Compt. Alade urged Nigerians to continue to discharge their civil responsibilities through prompt payment of taxes to enable government to meet its obligations.

Alade made the call in Abeokuta during a chat with Journalists on the activities of the command for the last quarter of the 2023 Fiscal year.

Mr Alade who noted that government was working hard to make the business environment conducive for investors especially in addressing the challenge of epileptic power supply, poor road network, strengthening of naira among others urged people, particularly the industry owners to play their part well.

The Customs boss noted that some of the factory owners said the difficulty in accessing foreign exchange, high interest rate, and the unfriendly business environment affected their ability to pay excise duties.

He, however, urged them to comply with the law and insisted that all outstanding payments must be paid in full.

Announcing that the command generated Four Billion, Six Hundred And Twenty Seven Million, Fifty-four Thousand, Four Hundred And Fifty-one Naira, Sixty nine kobo (N4,627,054,451.69) as revenue through excise duties in the month of September and October, the Customs Ogun II Command Area Controller attributed the feat to the motivation from the management of Nigeria Customs service as well as deployment of intelligence in their operations.

He commended the efforts of the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr.
Bashir Adeniyi in the implementation of policies and agenda of the Federal Government to encourage Officers and Men of the service to carry out their statutory functions across the nation.

Mr. Alade restated the commitment of command to continue to put in place necessary measures to improve on the collections with adequate support from other units of the service such as the CIU and Customs police.

“In addition, our activities in the free trade zones have improved and these have yielded greater success which is evident in our monthly revenue collections. The command will continue to put in place necessary measures to improve on the collections with adequate support from other units of the service such as the CIU and customs police.

“We shall maintain success through synergy. We will continue to dialogue, engage, and sensitize the local and business communities while discharging our statutory responsibilities of enforcing compliance with government fiscal policies.

“It is also important to stress that the successes recorded in our revenue in this command can be attributed to the following factors;

“Good motivation from the Nigeria Customs Service Management which has boosted the morale of officers and kept them in high spirits at all times.

“Aggressive stakeholder engagement by the Customs Area Controller (CAC) including visits and parsley with other security/government agencies in Ogun State.”

He also promised to continue to dialogue, engage, and sensitize the local and business communities while discharging their statutory responsibilities of enforcing compliance with government fiscal policies.
