Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele To Speak At Covenant University, Ota Parapo Chamber of Commerce Tax Reform Conference
ABEOKUTA — The Ota Parapo Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OPCCIMA), in collaboration with Covenant University’s Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research (CEPDeR), has announced that the Minister of Finance, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 2026 Tax Reform Forum and Conference.
The conference, scheduled to hold from June 10 to 11, 2026, at the CUCRID Auditorium, Covenant University, Ota, is expected to bring together policymakers, academics, business leaders, tax professionals and members of the public to discuss the implications of Nigeria’s evolving tax regime.
According to the organisers, the forum is designed to provide clarity on the practical application and impact of the country’s new tax laws, while fostering dialogue on policy reforms that can drive economic growth and sustainable development.
The conference will focus on the theme, “Tax Policy in Green Future: Socio-Economic Implications for Developing Countries,” with discussions expected to explore the role of taxation in supporting environmental sustainability, economic transformation and inclusive growth.
Prof. Oyedele is expected to deliver insights into ongoing tax reform initiatives and their implications for businesses, investors and citizens, as well as the role of fiscal policy in promoting a green economy.
Organisers said the event aims to deepen public understanding of tax policies and equip stakeholders with the knowledge required to navigate the changing tax landscape effectively.
The conference is being jointly organised by OPCCIMA and CEPDeR as part of efforts to promote informed policy discourse and strengthen stakeholder engagement on critical economic issues affecting Nigeria’s development.
Among those coordinating the event are Dr. Busayo Aderounmu, Chair of CEPDeR; Elder Olanrewaju Ogunseye, FCA, Deputy President of OPCCIMA; and Prof. Evans Osabuohien, the Conference Chair.
Participants are expected to examine emerging trends in tax administration, green financing and sustainable development, while identifying policy options that can enhance competitiveness and economic resilience in developing countries.
The organisers expressed optimism that the conference would provide a valuable platform for constructive engagement between government, the private sector and the academic community on the future of tax policy and economic development in Nigeria.
