Foundation Tasks FG To Engage Students Through Improved Technical, Vocational Education
ABEOKUTA – Federal government has been tasked to engage the young ones through technical and vocational education in order to bridge the deficits in the nation’s infrastructure and other critical sectors.
The Founder, Tola Adebajo Foundation (TAF), Prince Omotola Adebajo stated this on Tuesday in a press statement issues by the foundation’s Lead Media Consultant, Olusegun Olukoga on the just concluded free summer coaching for over 1,500 indigent pupils in Ijebu-Igbo, the headquarters of Ijebu North local government area of Ogun State.
Prince Adebajo called for an improved educational curriculum that would retain technical and vocational studies in primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.
Adebajo said that would help the government at all levels discover talents, skills, and academic strength ahead of certain career paths, preferences, and professions.
He said, Nigeria must begin to look for ways to engage the young ones through technical and vocational education such that, deficits in the nation’s infrastructure and other critical sectors are bridged, which he believed would bring about positive development.
“Every student must be allowed to pursue an additional study different from pure science, arts and commercial studies, for instance, do not force the general sciences on wards. A student may be nursing a preference for a technical or vocational program but then, because the curriculum hasn’t captured that session, he or she is left with the traditional general studies; it is, therefore, crucial for government to make infrastructure available for those exceptions.”
Meanwhile, in a significant approach to address the educational needs of indigent children in Ijebu-Igbo, the founder, Tola Adebajo Foundation (TAF), Prince Adebajo, again, has increased the number of indigent pupils and students the foundation will cater for ahead of 2024/2025 academic year.
The gesture will no longer be limited to Atikori as more schools in Oke-Sopen, Oke-Agbo, Ojowo, and Japara have been shortlisted.
According to him, shortlisted students will be supported with cash awards and provision of uniform and writing materials on termly basis in order to aid the learning rate of the pupils.
“We are determined at TAF to make life better for the less privileged and the foundation will not stop at making sure education is accessible to the children particularly skills that will distinguished them to be self reliant towards nation building.”
