KANO State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, on Friday, said it has secured court order to prosecute seven dealers in connection with skyrocketed prices of essential commodities such as flour resultant of increment in prices of bread in the state.
The Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Bar. Muhyi Rimingado disclosed this during a meeting with leadership of essential commodities market popularly known as Singer market and Master bakers in the state.
Bar. Rimingado said the dealers were behind the skyrocketing of prices or artificial price hike of essential commodities which has negative effect and compound the untold hardship faced by the citizens.
“We have identified seven dealers who are behind the skyrocketing of the prices of Flour and Noddles in the State, and have got a coury order to prosecute them. We have placed one of the biggest dealer who is at large wanted.
“The unpatriotic merchants skyrocket the prices of food stuffs and compound the hardship faced by the citizens at this trying time when citizens embarked on nationwide protest against hardship in the country.
“They took advantage of the situation to sell the commodities at exorbitant prices.
“Governor Abba Yusuf, has formally convened an interactive meeting with the Singer Marketers association in an efforts to get to the roots of what is happening and as well met with the Baker’s association, they all agreed that the increased in the prices of flour is artificially done by some unpatriotic Marketers.
He gave my office a matching order to ensure that the negative situation of artificial increases in prices of essential commodities such as flour and spaghetti are been curtail immediately.
“I’m assuring you that after our meeting today with both the Baker’s and Singer Marketers Associations a common ground has been met that is the Singer People would be supplying Flour directly to the Baker’s cutting up the chain of retailers who took the advantage of the Protests to inflated the prices,” Bar. Rimingado said.
On his part, the Chairman, essential commodities market popularly known as Singer Market, Bar. Junaidu Muhammad said they had at a meeting with Bakers association as well as the Bread Bakers agreed to cut out the supply chain (middle men) by supplying flours directly to them.
Bar. Muhammad however, already they have supplied one trailer of flour directly to them.
