ABEOKUTA — The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Arc. Babatunde Jolaoso, has mourned the death of veteran journalist and alumnus of the institution, Dotun Oladipo, describing him as a kind-hearted, generous and bridge-building professional whose impact extended beyond journalism.
Dotun, the publisher of The Eagle Online died last month at the age of 56.
Jolaoso, in a tribute dated September 10, 2026, conveyed the condolences of the management, staff and students of the polytechnic to the family, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased.
The Rector said recollections by Oladipo’s classmates from his days at the then Ogun State Polytechnic, now MAPOLY, portrayed him as a man whose legacy went far beyond his professional accomplishments.
According to him, Oladipo was remembered as a “kind-hearted friend, generous colleague, mobiliser, bridge-builder” and, above all, someone who was always willing to help others.
Jolaoso particularly highlighted an account of Oladipo’s generosity as a student, when he readily offered support to a classmate in need.
He noted that the gesture, demonstrated at an early stage of Oladipo’s life, reflected a deeply ingrained character of compassion and willingness to lend a helping hand.
The MAPOLY Rector further described Oladipo as a worthy ambassador of his alma mater, saying he carried the institution’s values with distinction throughout his life.
He said Oladipo’s contributions to the polytechnic, particularly through his journalism, professional engagements and wider contributions to society, remained a source of pride to the institution.
“Though his departure is painful and his absence will be profoundly felt, the memories of his kindness, friendship, generosity and the bridges he built will continue to speak for him,” Jolaoso said.
He added that the footprints Oladipo left on the lives of people he encountered would remain indelible.
The Rector prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased and asked God to grant his family, colleagues, friends and other mourners the strength and comfort to bear the loss.
