Massive Crowd As PDP Flags Off Presidential, National Assembly Campaign In Ogun

ABEOKUTA – Tens of thousands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters and residents on Wednesday thronged the streets of the three federal constituencies in Ogun Central Senatorial District as the party officially commenced its campaign for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly election

The campaign train, led by the party’s Ogun State governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, and the senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, began its mobilisation in the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency before moving to Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South.

In Ifo/Ewekoro, residents lined the streets and adjoining balconies, waving enthusiastically as they welcomed Adebutu, his running mate, Hajiya Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, Senator Obasanjo and other party leaders to the flag-off held at Agbado Station.

The campaign train later moved to Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, where the PDP is fielding Arch. Dele Olaleye for the House of Representatives.

At NTA Junction, Totoro, a large crowd that had reportedly gathered from as early as 10am received the PDP candidates with solidarity songs and chants.

Addressing supporters, the senatorial and governorship candidates called for purposeful representation and urged residents to support the party’s candidates at both the National Assembly and state levels.

The campaign train subsequently proceeded to Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, where Hon. Toyin Amuzu is the PDP’s House of Representatives candidate.

The constituency witnessed another large turnout as supporters joined the convoy to the Ake Pavilion, venue of the Ogun Central campaign flag-off rally.

Speaking at the rally, Adebutu urged the people of Ogun Central to support Senator Obasanjo, describing her as a tested and trusted candidate whose record in office, according to him, remained unmatched.

He called on the people to reject what he described as non-performance and vote for what he termed “liberation” in the 2027 elections.

Adebutu also urged PDP supporters to turn out en masse on January 16, 2027, to vote for the party and defend their votes against intimidation.

“We must come out en masse to vote for PDP, stand by our votes and resist intimidation,” he said.

Also speaking, Obasanjo expressed delight at the reception she had received across the district, saying residents had continued to point to projects and interventions carried out during her previous representation.

According to her, the impact of her previous tenure was evident in the testimonies of residents who recalled how her interventions helped many people overcome poverty.

She pledged to do more if elected, promising to ensure that the people of Ogun Central benefit more from the dividends of democracy.

The party’s supporters and residents who spoke during the campaign expressed their commitment to the PDP candidates and pledged to vote for the party in January.

“We will vote and stand by our votes for PDP,” they declared.
