NDLEA Commissions New Office Facility in Olorunda, Boosts Community-Based Drug Control

ABEOKUTA – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, has commissioned a newly constructed office facility at Olorunda, provided by the Orunda of Olorunda, HRH Oba Dr. Joshua Olusegun Phillips-Ogunsola, to strengthen the agency’s operations and community engagement in the area.
The facility was commissioned on Tuesday, as part of efforts to enhance the Command’s operational presence and intensify the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking within the community.
The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers and representatives of security agencies, including the representative of the Commissioner of Police, CSP Oladipupo Bakre, Divisional Police Officer, Olorunda; Officer Commanding the Army Base, Olorunda, MW Shuaibu U; and representatives of other security agencies.
Speaking at the event, Oba Phillips-Ogunsola said the decision to provide the facility was motivated by his passion for the campaign against illicit drugs and his desire to support the NDLEA in protecting residents from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The traditional ruler commended the Ogun State Command of the NDLEA for its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking, stressing the need for communities and relevant stakeholders to provide the agency with the necessary support to effectively carry out its responsibilities.
In his response, the State Commander, NDLEA Ogun State Command, Commander Tijjani Rabe, expressed appreciation to the monarch and the people of Olorunda for providing the facility.
Rabe described the gesture as a demonstration of community ownership and support for the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
He pledged that the Command would sustain effective operations in the community and intensify efforts to protect residents from the consequences of illicit drug activities.
The NDLEA commander also stressed that the fight against illicit drugs could not be won by the agency alone, calling for sustained cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions and members of the public.
According to him, effective drug control requires collaboration, timely information sharing and coordinated action among stakeholders.
Rabe disclosed that NDLEA officers had already been deployed to the area to commence operations, charging them to maintain professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
The ceremony featured the hoisting of the Nigerian and NDLEA flags, while an Award of Appreciation and a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) banner were presented to Oba Phillips-Ogunsola in recognition of his support for the anti-drug campaign.
