Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, Ogun Boxing Association Collaborate To Develop, Nurture Talents

ABEOKUTA – The Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) says it would synergize with the Ogun State Boxing Association to develop amateur boxing talents into stardom.

The President of the Board, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo disclosed this on Tuesday during a working visit to the Ogun State Boxing Association in Abeokuta.

Dr. Ladipo represented by the Ogun state coordinator of the board, Dr. Demolu Okuneye said the presence of NBB of C in the state was to uplift the development of boxing in Ogun State.

He emphasized that, the board was in the state to also register promoters for both Amateur boxers now referred to as Olympics Boxers and the professional boxers so as to attract more boxing events to Ogun State and also develop potentials in officiating and exposing the boxers to the trend of boxing development across the world.

In his response, the Chairman, Ogun State Boxing Association, Mr. Chris Somide commended the board for its initiative and laudable programmes to revive boxing in the state.

Somide who was represented by Dr. Razaq Oyadiran tasked the board to engage career boxers and nurture them to stardom from amateur to professional boxers.

Somide equally enjoined the NBB of C to review its rules banning Olympic boxers from becoming members of the board.

He welcomed the coming of NBB of C to Ogun State, noting that there should be synergy between the board and association and the Federation.

“I want to charge you to engage the career boxers to see them beyond boxing most especially changing from the amateur/Olympic boxers to professional boxers at the expiration of their career in there. We need to reconsider the rules which implies that an Olympic boxers cannot be member of the board as professional boxers at the same time.”
