IPERU – The governorship candidate of People’s Democratic Party in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has accused the state governor, Dapo Abiodun of engaging in vote buying and inducement of electorates.
Adebutu, who casted his votes at his polling unit in Wesley primary school, Iperu in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun state, alleged that the governor is reportedly sharing dollars to electorates.
Our reporter observed that the governor after voting at his polling unit was seen going to different polling booths to observe electioneering process.
Adebutu, however, faulted the action of the governor, insisting that it is violation of electoral act for Governor Abiodun to be moving around after casting his votes at his polling unit.
He said, “It is a pity that those that will lead continue to fail us. We have seen the governor of the state galivanting all over these area, he has just left here as he has been going from one polling unit to another on occasion even sharing dollar notes, the election in this locality can not be free and fair
“If Governor is openly sharing dollar notes, what do you expect from that? What does the electoral Act says about people salivating around? Is that within the law?
“Those that lead must lead by example, we will ultimately win but we must hold our leaders to high standards.
“We will vote according to the electoral laws because we want peace and make this country great and right, we are doing well all over the state the turnout largely has been decent.”
Reacting, the Special Adviser to Governor Abiodun on Public communication, Remmy Hazzan described the allegation as untrue and unfounded.
Hazzan said it is “friction of imagination of PDP governorship candidate in the state to say the governor is sharing dollars”.
He further said, “We are in a season of what I called conspiracy. Anything you say, do or even think can be misconstrued to suit the narrative of the opposition.
“I am aware that Prince Dapo Abiodun and Hon. Ladi Adebutu are from the same country home in Iperu. It is not impossible that on his way to polling unit that the governor was at places where voting was taken place. The truth of the matter is that election day is the day of no return for voters, the mind is already made. Whatever you are doing at that point has up to little or nothing. That narrative that the governor is sharing dollar, I would love to see the footage that such a thing happened.”
