NWC Orders Ogun PDP To Register Akinlade, APM Members
ABEOKUTA – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Working Committee (NWC) has approved applications seeking registration of committed party supporters in Ogun state as card-carrying members of the party.
The PDP NWC also directed the Ogun State chapter of the party to register Allied Peoples Movement (APM) members who defected to the party in 2022.
In the approval letter, signed by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Hon. Usman Bature on March 29 indicated that the approval was in tandem with the PDP’s constitution.
Bature also noted that membership of the party is open to every Nigerians.
The letter reads “This is to confirm that the above request by the State Chapter and the Deputy Governorship Candidate of our Party in the just concluded General Election for registration of his supporters has been considered and approved by the National Working Committee (NWC).
“You may wish to note that pursuant to our Constitution, membership of our party shall be open to all Nigerians, see Chapter 2, Part 1 Section 8(1) of our Constitution.
Bature stated further “This notwithstanding, their application for membership has been considered and/or rejected by the Ward Executive Committee as prescribed by Section (5) of the same Section, the State Working Committee (SEC) is equally empowered to review such decision.
“However, the NWC of our great Party, on behalf of National Executive Council (NEC) being the final arbiter has executed its powers and directed the Ogun State Chapter to, as a matter of importance, register those concerned, i.e. APM members who defected to our Party.
“Finally, your attention is also drawn to Section (58) (1) (C) of our Constitution which makes it an offence for any Officer of the Party who refuses to perform his or duties under the Constitution.
“While thanking you for your commitment and dedication to our Party, please accept the assurances of the NWC’s highest regards”, the letter added.
