ABEOKUTA — Former Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Tolu Odebiyi, CON, has strongly denied reports linking him to the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) and speculations that he intends to contest for the Senate under the party’s platform.
In a statement issued on Friday, Odebiyi described the claims as “entirely false, baseless, and frankly insulting,” accusing certain individuals of falsely using his name to promote the political party.
The former lawmaker stated that anyone familiar with his political history and personal convictions would know that he does not engage in political defections, particularly from a party with what he described as a “historical progressive lineage,” noting that his family has played a significant role in sustaining the progressive political tradition, especially under the current administration.
“I have been made aware that some individuals are falsely using my name to promote their political party under the pretext that I intend to contest for the Senate on the platform of the NDC. This claim is entirely false, baseless, and frankly insulting.”
He further disclosed that he had previously received invitations to join other political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Allied Peoples Movement (APM), but rejected all such overtures without hesitation.
According to him, he has never been a member of the NDC and has no intention of associating with the party. He consequently called on the leadership, members, and supporters of the NDC to immediately cease using his name or linking him to their political activities.
“I hereby advise the Chairman of the NDC and all its members and supporters to immediately cease and desist from using my name or associating me with their party in any form. I have never been, and I am not, a member of the NDC,” he stated.
Odebiyi reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that he remains a loyal and dedicated member of the ruling party.
He also reiterated his support for the governorship ambition of his brother in Ogun State and the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The former senator urged members of the public to disregard what he described as false claims and misleading propaganda aimed at creating confusion about his political affiliation.
“I remain a loyal and committed member of the APC, fully dedicated to the campaign and election of my brother as the next Governor of Ogun State, as well as the re-election of the President,” he added.
He concluded by calling on the public to ignore the misinformation and remain guided by verified information regarding his political activities.
