Ogun 2027: Youth Party Senatorial Candidate Vows To Prioritize Vocational, Digital Skills Devt For Youths

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun Central Senatorial Candidate for Youth Party in the 2027 general election, Hon. Goke Kuye, has pledged to make youth development, employment and economic empowerment central to his legislative agenda if elected to represent the district at the National Assembly.

While speaking to journalists in Abeokuta on Friday, Kuye said the large population of young people across Ogun Central represented an enormous resource that could be transformed into economic growth if given the right opportunities, skills and support.

He said, “Our youths are not a burden. They are our greatest resource. What they need is a government and representation that will create opportunities for them to use their talents, acquire relevant skills and become economically independent.”

According to him, his proposed representation would prioritise vocational and digital skills development, entrepreneurship, access to finance, mentorship and employment opportunities for young people across the six local government areas of Ogun Central.

Kuye stressed that youth empowerment must go beyond the distribution of equipment and occasional financial assistance, insisting that sustainable programmes should equip beneficiaries with skills, access to markets and the necessary support to build viable businesses.

He said, “I do not believe that empowerment should be reduced to giving a few people equipment or cash and calling it empowerment. We must build a system where young people can learn a skill, access capital, produce something, find a market and grow their businesses.”

The senatorial candidate also promised to advocate policies that would promote technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, saying Ogun Central could become a major hub for young innovators and entrepreneurs if the right legislative and economic environment was created.

Kuye noted that the district, comprising Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Ewekoro, Ifo, Obafemi Owode and Odeda, had youths with diverse talents and capabilities that could contribute significantly to the development of the area.

He added, “I want to see a situation where a young person in Odeda can access the same kind of opportunity as another young person in Abeokuta. A young entrepreneur in Ifo should not have to leave the community before finding support, while our young people in Ewekoro, Obafemi Owode and other parts of the district must also be part of the development process.”

Kuye further said he would seek stronger collaboration among relevant government agencies, private organisations, educational institutions and community stakeholders to address youth unemployment and create sustainable economic opportunities.

He maintained that young people should not be remembered only during election campaigns, stressing that they must be given a meaningful role in governance and decision-making.

“Youths should not be seen only as people who will attend rallies, paste posters or vote during elections. They must be stakeholders in governance. Their ideas, skills and aspirations should influence the policies that affect their future,” he said.

Kuye therefore urged youths across Ogun Central to take an active interest in the 2027 electoral process, saying the future of the district depended largely on the choices made by its people.
