Ogun FA Chairman Visits Customs Comptroller, Harps On Need For Grassroots Development

ABEOKUTA – The Executive Board Member, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi has described the Customs Football team as pride of Ogun State that must receive the needed support to succeed.

Alhaji Majekodunmi who is also the Chairman, Ogun State Football Association stated this when he paid a working visit to the Controller, Ogun Area I Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. James Ojo at his Idiroko Office.

Describing the Customs football team as one of the oldest teams in the state, the NFF Board Member noted that the existence of the team had continued to provide job opportunities for the youths in the state, leading to the reduction of societal ills.

He explained the visit to the command was part of the responsibility of the State football association to discuss with stakeholders on the need to develop sports at the grassroots levels.

He maintained that the team’s participation in the NLO had increased the slot of Ogun State representatives in the Nigeria Football League.

Alhaji Majekodunmi commended the efforts of the Controller to ensure the participation of the customs football team in the various competitions being organized in the state.

The Customs FC currently played in the Division One of the Nigeria Football League, NLO.

Responding the Customs Controller, Comptroller James Ojo reaffirmed the commitment of the command to partner with the Ogun State football Association to promote sports at the grassroots levels.

Comptroller Ojo gave the assurance that efforts would be intensified to ensure that the football team receive the necessary attention its deserved.

“It is highly impressive that Customs could have a team in the National Division one of the Nigerian League. This is a feat that has been achieved as a result of hard work on the part of the players and the officials.

“So we discuss at length the possibility of the Customs service absorbing the team as an entity. So I did give them my words that I’m going to write to the Comptroller-General of Customs who I know is a sport loving personality to see what he can do to assist this team.

“But before then, myself and my colleagues here at the local level, we have made up our minds to contribute from our salaries from henceforth to assist the team in their cause for national Honours.”

Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of the official emblem of the Super Eagles Jersey to the Controller.
