ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of a firearm in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
According to a press statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, operatives attached to the Ifo Division carried out the arrest on Friday, May 9, 2026, following a credible intelligence-led operation.
The suspects, identified as Adeola Mathew, 47, and Rasheed Omoniyi, 48, were apprehended after police detectives stormed a criminal hideout along Ibogun Road in the NITEL area of Ifo.
Adeola Mathew was arrested at the scene, while a search of the premises led to the recovery of a locally made pistol concealed within the hideout.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm was allegedly supplied to Adeola Mathew by Rasheed Omoniyi, who was subsequently tracked and arrested by police operatives.
The recovered weapon has been secured as evidence, while further investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the firearm and the suspects’ possible involvement in other criminal activities.
The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents across Ogun State.
