According to Ogunsiji, football has continued to bridge cultural, ethnic, and religious divides while inspiring millions of young people to pursue excellence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
“Football possesses a unique ability to transform lives and societies. Beyond entertainment, it serves as a platform for talent discovery, job creation, national integration, and community development. The game continues to give hope to countless youths and provides opportunities for growth and global recognition,” he stated.
The SWAN Chairman further emphasized the critical role of sports journalists in promoting the positive values of football through responsible reportage, advocacy, and support for grassroots sports development.
He called on governments at all levels, corporate organizations, stakeholders, and football administrators to invest more in sports infrastructure, youth development programmes, and policies that will strengthen football development in Nigeria.
Comrade Ogunsiji also urged young footballers and sports enthusiasts to embrace the core values of hard work, discipline, fairness, and sportsmanship, stressing that football remains a powerful tool for societal transformation and national progress.
