ABEOKUTA – Women members of the Youth Party in Ogun State have commenced grassroots mobilisation in Ogun Central Senatorial District as the party begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The women who took their mobilisation to the streets of Abeokuta on Wednesday engaged residents and canvassing support for the party ahead of the elections.
The exercise attracted a large turnout of women members, who participated in the street-to-street mobilisation and political engagement across the area.
The development is part of the Youth Party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, with the party having selected Olagoke Kuye as its senatorial candidate for Ogun Central.
The party announced its candidates following its 2026 primary elections conducted under its One Member, One Vote system.
Speaking during the mobilisation, the Chairman of the Youth Party in Ogun State, Olamide Okunowo, said the involvement of women was central to the party’s grassroots strategy.
Okunowo said the mobilisation was intended to take the party’s message directly to residents and create opportunities for interaction with communities ahead of the election.
According to her, “Women constitute an important part of the political process, and their participation cannot be limited to election day. We want our women to be actively involved in engaging communities, discussing issues that affect the people and contributing to the political direction of the state.”
She added that the party would continue to strengthen its grassroots structures across Ogun State as the 2027 elections approach.
“We are building from the grassroots. Our focus is on reaching the people, listening to them and ensuring that our members are properly organised across the communities. This mobilisation is only one part of the work ahead,” Okunowo said.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Olayinka Nifesimi, who announced the exercise, said the turnout demonstrated the willingness of the party’s women members to participate actively in its political activities.
Nifesimi said the women were prepared to sustain their engagement with residents and support the party’s campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our women came out in large numbers for the first Women’s Soloja in Ogun Central. Their participation shows their readiness to be part of the political process and the activities of the Youth Party as we prepare for 2027,” she said.
He added that the women’s group would continue with political canvassing and community engagement as the party expands its presence across Ogun Central.
