LAGOS – The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos State, has decorated a renowned philanthropist and community leader, the Asiwaju of Orile-Imo and Lisa of Orile-Oko, High Chief Olakunle Olalekan, as the Golden Patron of the organisation.
The honour was bestowed on the community leader on Saturday at the 2026 Patrons and Honorary Members’ Investiture and Awards Ceremony held at Onikan, Lagos State.
The event, which had the theme, “Police-Community Synergy for a Safer and More Secure Zone,” brought together senior police officers, PCRC officials, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, corporate organisations and other dignitaries.
High Chief Olakunle, who is also the Grand Patron of PCRC in Ogun State, was recognised for his contributions to community development, philanthropy, peacebuilding and the growth of the organisation.
The event was attended by the National Chairman of PCRC Nigeria and Overseas, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan; Zonal Chairman, PCRC Zone 2, Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola, JP; and AIG Moshood Jimoh, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Bello, DC Administration.
Also present were the National Vice Chairman, South-West, Prince Sunny Yemi Adenowo, who was represented; PCRC chairmen from Lagos, Ogun and Osun states; the Managing Director of Coronation Insurance; representatives of Rosula Group and Bet9ja; past presidents of Rotary Clubs, among others.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ven. Popoola described High Chief Olakunle as a man of integrity and a philanthropist who had contributed immensely to the development of his community.
He said the Lisa of Orile-Oko deserved the honour because of the good name he had continued to uphold, describing him as a peaceful community leader whose lifestyle had earned him the recognition of an “Omoluabi.”
The Zonal Chairman, who is also a former PCRC Chairman in Ogun State, commended Olakunle for his contributions to the growth of the organisation, particularly his financial and moral support.
In his welcome address, Ven. Popoola said the ceremony was not merely a social gathering but a celebration of partnership, shared responsibility and the collective commitment to building safer and more secure communities.
He stressed that security should not be seen as the exclusive responsibility of the Police, noting that effective policing required active participation and cooperation from members of the public.
According to him, the evolving nature of security challenges makes collaboration between the Police and communities more important, particularly through trust-building, intelligence sharing, mutual respect, community engagement, proactive crime prevention and youth empowerment.
He said the PCRC was established to bridge the gap between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities they serve by promoting understanding, confidence and cooperation.
Ven. Popoola also appreciated the patrons, honorary members and awardees for their physical presence, financial support, wise counsel and sacrifices towards the growth and sustainability of PCRC in Zone 2 and Nigeria.
He further reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, government institutions, corporate organisations, traditional institutions, religious bodies, youth and women groups and other stakeholders to promote safer communities across Lagos and Ogun states.
Also speaking, the National Chairman of PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, appreciated the newly invested patrons for their contributions towards the development of the organisation.
He said the patrons were selected because of their integrity and contributions to society, urging them to continue to uphold the values for which they were recognised.
Olaniyan particularly commended High Chief Olakunle for his commitment to maintaining peace in his community, saying he had heard of his achievements and peaceful disposition.
He explained that the decision to confer the Golden Patron title on Olakunle was informed by his commitment to peaceful coexistence and community development.
Responding, High Chief Olakunle Olalekan expressed appreciation to the PCRC leadership for finding him worthy of the honour.
The PCRC National Chairman pledged to continue supporting the organisation and contributing to its development, while reaffirming his commitment to promoting peace and security in his community.
Also the Asiwaju of Orile-Imo, High Chief Olakunle Olalekan said the peace remained one of his major priorities, stressing that he would continue to promote peaceful coexistence among residents.
He added that he had contributed to the development of his community through various initiatives, including youth empowerment and support for the elderly and persons living with disabilities.
High Chief Olakunle also commended the PCRC for its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in strengthening community security and fostering peaceful communities.
