LAGOS – Angry Mob on Monday lynched two suspected bisexuals identified as Aleye Rilwan Ayinde and Richard Ogba around Mushin area of Lagos State.
Recall that President Goodluck Jonathan, in 2014, signed a bill, criminalizing same-sex relationships.
The bill, which contains penalties of up to 14 years in prison was passed by the national assembly last May.
According to an eyewitness account, the two suspects were caught at Alhaji Princess Hotel room having consensual sex while the waitress unwittingly entered the room to serve them food.
The eyewitness who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that, the waitress alerted other workers in the hotel who later invited local vigilante group in the area, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC).
The witness said while the operatives of OPC were taking them to the Police station, some angry mob hijacked the two suspects and beat them mercilessly.
She said, it however, took the intervention of Policemen from Mushin Area command who rescued the suspects from the angry mob.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident to our reporter.
Hundeyin said the suspects have been taken to hospital for treatment, while the command will launch investigation into the matter.
He said as soon as the DPO in Mushin Police Division concluded their investigation the matter will be transferred to the state headquarters for further prosecution.
