Senator Yayi Begins Ogun Governorship Campaign in Ewekoro, Seeks Support For APC Candidates

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has called on community leaders and other stakeholders in Ewekoro Local Government Area to sustain their engagement with the party and participate actively in the forthcoming elections.

Adeola made the appeal during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting with traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders in Ewekoro, where he sought their feedback on his legislative representation and discussed the development priorities of the local government and the state.

The senator, who described Ewekoro as an important constituency, said he deliberately commenced his stakeholders’ engagement in the area to demonstrate its significance to his political and development agenda.

He explained that the meeting was designed to assess his performance, identify outstanding challenges and obtain practical suggestions on how to address the developmental needs of the people.

Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, also solicited support for the APC in the 2027 general elections, urging the stakeholders to support the party’s candidates at all levels.

He specifically appealed to them to support Senator Shuaib Salisu for continuity and effective representation in the Ogun Central Senatorial District, describing the need for a complementary working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government as important to development.

According to him, having representatives who can work together across the different levels of government would facilitate the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.

The APC governorship candidate expressed concern over the party’s narrow victory margin of fewer than 500 votes in Ewekoro during the last election, urging party members and stakeholders to address whatever differences might have contributed to the outcome.

“With less than 500 votes, APC won Ewekoro in the last election. I am not particularly happy. Whatever the issues are, let us resolve them. No governor can finish everything. We will continue from where the present administration stops. We will work for you, and we will not disappoint you,” he said.

Acknowledging some of the infrastructure challenges confronting communities in Ewekoro, Adeola assured the people that outstanding needs would receive attention, adding that his administration would build on the foundation laid by the current government.

He also promised to establish a feedback platform through which residents and community stakeholders could communicate their concerns, make suggestions and monitor government responses.

“I am assuring you that, as your governor, I will give you quality representation and try as much as possible to meet your expectations,” he added.

On his legislative record, Adeola highlighted his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and his contributions to lawmaking, disclosing that he had sponsored 15 bills and presented four motions that had been adopted as Senate resolutions.

He particularly cited the enactment of the legislation upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to a University of Technology as one of his major legislative achievements.

The senator also disclosed that he had facilitated more than 900 infrastructure projects across Ogun State, including road construction, school buildings, healthcare facilities, markets, police stations, town halls, solar-powered projects and the installation of transformers.

Giving an account of projects facilitated in Ewekoro, he listed the completed ultra-modern market at Obada Oko, rehabilitation of the Papalanto-Oteyi Road, renovation of the Obada Oko Primary Health Centre and provision of solar-powered boreholes and streetlights at Obada Market.

Other projects, including road construction at Iyana Complex Junction and Obada Central Community, the Wasimi ultra-modern market, classroom blocks at Government Technical College, Ajegunle, and Itori Comprehensive High School, as well as a mini-grid project at Obada Oko General Hospital, were also mentioned.

However, he acknowledged the need for further interventions on Old Ilaro Road, Ejio Road, Afowowa-Sogade Road and Pateleri Road, as well as the provision of a healthcare centre at Abalabi, promising to address the concerns in the months ahead.

Adeola further disclosed that his scholarship and bursary initiative had benefited about 10,000 students across Ogun State, while more than 20,000 market men and women had received financial empowerment grants ranging from N50,000 to N75,000.

He also highlighted the achievements of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration and the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun, particularly in infrastructure, education, economic reforms and social intervention programmes.

On the presidential election, Adeola urged the stakeholders to consider the continuity of the Tinubu administration, arguing that the South should be allowed to complete its eight-year presidential tenure.

He said the Federal Government’s economic reforms, although accompanied by challenges, were beginning to yield results, while citing improvements in economic indicators, education financing and infrastructure development.

“The presidential election is very important. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done a lot. Before Tinubu, Nigeria borrowed to pay salaries, and ASUU strikes were frequent. I want you to use the same love and spirit to support him,” he said.

The senator also appealed to the people to sustain their support for the APC at all levels, assuring them that his proposed nine-pillar ITESIWAJU agenda would guide his administration if elected governor in 2027.

He reiterated his commitment to building on the achievements of the current administration and ensuring that the concerns raised by communities were reflected in government policies and development programmes.
