Student Group, Team DATIEMO Invests Over N10m in Welfare Projects At OGITECH
ABEOKUTA — A political group, Team DATIEMO has strengthened its position as one of the most influential student support groups at the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), committing more than ₦10 million to welfare interventions across the institution during the current academic session.
The group, led by Ajibola Toheeb Olakunle and Orunmade Abdulrazzak Ayomide, has attracted widespread attention on campus for its extensive investments in student welfare, ranging from healthcare and education support to sports development and religious infrastructure.
Findings by our correspondent revealed that Team DATIEMO’s latest round of interventions has impacted students in areas including healthcare, sports, academics, arts and religious activities.
In a move aimed at supporting creative education, the group sponsored the purchase of musical instruments for students of the Music Department, a development expected to improve practical learning and talent development within the department.
The group also intervened in the healthcare needs of students facing medical challenges.
About two weeks ago, Team DATIEMO provided N350,000 for the treatment of an Accountancy student and football goalkeeper whose illness had threatened to disrupt his academic pursuits.
Similarly, a 100-level Computer Science student battling health complications received financial support amounting to N150,000.
As part of efforts to cushion the economic burden on students, Team DATIEMO sponsored school fees for selected students across various departments, including Business Administration, Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), Engineering, Public Administration and Mass Communication. Sources within the institution disclosed that approximately N700,000 was expended on school fees for students in the Mass Communication Department alone.
The group’s intervention also extended to sports development, with the sponsorship of football jerseys for several departments, including SLT, Public Administration, Business Administration, Taxation, Marketing, Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering.
In addition, Team DATIEMO funded the production of OGITECH’s official home and away football kits, a move many students described as a boost to institutional pride and sporting identity.
To reduce the financial burden associated with academic materials, the group also financed handouts and educational resources for students in Business Administration, Public Administration and SLT departments.
Religious and spiritual activities were not left out, as Team DATIEMO supported the construction of the institution’s mosque and provided assistance for student parish buildings and programmes.
The interventions have attracted commendation from students across the institution, with many describing the group’s approach to welfare as timely, practical and impactful.
Students and stakeholders within the institution noted that the leadership of Ajibola Toheeb Olakunle and Orunmade Abdulrazzak Ayomide has positioned Team DATIEMO as a major stakeholder in student welfare and development at OGITECH.
