ABEOKUTA – The Mobile Phones Dealers and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOPDATECH), Ogun State chapter, has dismissed reports claiming that the state’s Computer Village has been relocated from Oke-Ilewo to Olomore in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
The Chairman of the association, Omooba Obadina Hammed Olagoke, popularly known as Aseyori, made the clarification while speaking with journalists in Abeokuta on Sunday, insisting that the association remains firmly rooted at Tarmac, Oke-Ilewo, in Abeokuta South Local Government Area.
Olagoke described the relocation claim as false and misleading, urging members of the public and customers to disregard what he called “fake news.”
According to him, an individual allegedly constructed shops at Olomore and named the location “Egba Computer Village” in a bid to undermine the long-established Computer Village at Oke-Ilewo.
He maintained that MOPDATECH has operated in Oke-Ilewo for over 25 years and has no plans to relocate.
“We want to inform the public that Ogun State Computer Village remains in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta South Local Government Area, and not in Olomore. The report that we have relocated is completely false. We are still here and we are not moving anywhere,” he said.
“Those spreading the fake news only want to diminish the status of the Computer Village in Oke-Ilewo. They built shops elsewhere and named it Egba Computer Village, but the only recognized Computer Village in Ogun State is located in Oke-Ilewo.”
Olagoke disclosed that although some individuals had approached members of the association to establish businesses in Olomore, they declined due to concerns over the security of lives and property.
“Our members are enjoying adequate security in Oke-Ilewo, and that is one of the reasons they have refused to move,” he added.
The MOPDATECH chairman commended Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez, for their support and commitment to the development of the association, particularly in providing security within the market.
He also praised the Olu of Ibara, Oba Dr. Jacob Olufemi Omolade, for his fatherly support and contributions to the association’s growth.
Olagoke further declared the association’s support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, describing him as a politician of integrity with a large heart.
He commended the senator for his support for phone dealers and technicians across the state, assuring that members of the association would mobilise support for him ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Also speaking, the association’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Razak Babatunde, described the relocation report as a mere fabrication, reiterating that the only recognized Computer Village in Ogun State is located at Oke-Ilewo.
Former MOPDATECH chairman, Comrade Adebayo Adebowale, also dismissed the relocation claims, insisting that Tarmac remains in Oke-Ilewo.
He lauded the current leadership of the association under Olagoke, saying it has prioritised members’ welfare and recorded significant achievements.
Similarly, former chairmen, Asiwaju Yemi Fadeyi and Alhaji Ganiu Adeshina, described the relocation report as false and urged the public to ignore it, reaffirming that the association’s official base remains at Oke-Ilewo in Abeokuta South Local Government Area.
