13-1: Gateway United FC Disclaims Involvement in Fraudulent Match Against Al-Merrikh Of Sudan

ABEOKUTA- The management of Ogun State-owned Football Club, Gateway United, has discredited news going round on social media that it suffered an embarrassing 13-1 defeat to Africa football giant, Al-Merrikh of Sudan.

The team, in a press statement by its Media Officer, Moses Ojewunmi, explained that a team impersonating Gateway United FC recently played a match against Al Merrikh and suffered a 13-1 defeat.

The club said it had no participation or knowledge of the said match.

According to the Media Officer, a team from Ikere-Ekiti impersonating Gateway United’s name and logo was heavily beaten by the African football giant in a novelty match.

Gateway United, therefore, warned Al-Merrikh Sporting Club to remove its logo from their website and social media channels immediately.

“We wish to clarify that Gateway United FC had no involvement in this match. This was an illegal use of our club’s name and logo, and we were not aware of or associated with this event in any capacity.

“For the record, Gateway United Football Club of Ogun State, with its secretariat at MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto Abeokuta, had no participation or knowledge of the said match.

“We appreciate our fans’ support and understanding as we address this matter. Please rest assured that we are taking the necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

“We hereby warn anyone or any organization impersonating Gateway United FC to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law.

“Furthermore, we demand that Al Merrikh pull down our logo from their website and social media channels immediately.

“For official updates and information about Gateway United FC, please refer to our verified communication channels.”
