ABEOKUTA- The indigenous people of Yewa-Awori in Ogun West senatorial district of Ogun State are confident that they are ready to break the jinx and produce the next governor of the state in 2027.
The Yewa-Awori division of the state have been agitating for the top job since the state’s creation 49 years ago.
The Egba, Ijebu and Remo divisions have all produced the Governor of the state at various times while the Yewa-Awori people continue to find the office elusive.
Speaking with journalists over the weekend at Ota, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC from Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Olootu Bolaji Adeniji, has declared that the state is ready for a governor of Yewa-Awori origin.
Adeniji said the current political developments in the state indeed indicates so.
“Yes we have been agitating to produce the governor for decades and we have made good attempts at it but have failed at crunch time. However our agitation this time around has taken a life of its own, expanded beyond our district to now become a pan-Ogun State agenda”.
“All over the state, the awareness is at its highest levels ever and the talk is now about who is best fit from Yewa-Awori bloc to develop the whole state”.
Adeniji, who is also the Convener of Ogun West Initiative, said the senatorial district is approaching the gubernatorial agenda better than before, hence the wider acceptability it is enjoying.
“You all can see that we are gaining better traction because we are more strategic and focused. We are having a homegrown recruitment process for 2027 and within us also, all the infrastructure that makes for electoral success is being meticulously pursued so that we are in control of our destiny “
“We are building the right bridges across the state and having the right conversation and showcasing very strong human potentials to do the job, so it is not surprising that the aggregate of opinion is today anchored on Ogun West for 2027”.
The chieftain used the medium to appeal for more support from without and more unity within, so that the agenda can become a reality.
“It is not yet uhuru and we’re taking nothing for granted. We appeal for more unity from our people to push this through while we seek the love of our brothers in Ogun Central and East to let equity, fairness and justice prevail.
