EXCLUSIVE: Ogun APC Suspends Governorship Aspirant, Abayomi Hunye Over Alleged Misconduct

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the suspension of Mr. Abayomi Hunye, a party member from Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

In a letter dated April 7, 2026 and addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, the Ogun State Working Committee confirmed that the suspension followed due process in line with the party’s constitution.

According to the letter, the state chapter received an earlier communication dated March 23, 2026 from the Ipokia Local Government Executive Committee, informing the state leadership of Hunye’s initial suspension from the ward level.

The state leadership stated that the disciplinary action was carried out in accordance with Article 21 of the APC Constitution (2022 as amended), which outlines the procedures and conditions for sanctioning members whose actions are considered inconsistent with the party’s values and code of conduct.

According to the letter jointly signed by the State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi and State Assistant Secretary, Razaq Ogunde, the Ogun State Executive Committee held a meeting at the party’s state secretariat in Abeokuta on April 7, 2026 to review the matter.

The duo said party officials examined the allegations against Hunye, the evidence presented by the Tube Ward Executive Committee, and whether the disciplinary process complied with constitutional requirements.

They explained that the suspension was justified and that all procedures stipulated under Article 21 had been properly followed.

“Upon receipt of the local government’s recommendation, the Ogun State Executive Committee convened a full meeting on the 7th day of April 2026 at the State Secretariat in Abeokuta. During this meeting, the committee thoroughly reviewed the facts presented by the Executive Committee of Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government, including the specific allegations against Mr. Abayomi Hunye, the evidence adduced, and the adherence to due process.

“The State Executive Committee found that the suspension was not only justified on its merits but also carried out in full conformity with the party’s constitutional procedures. There was no procedural irregularity; the rights of the member were respected, and all stages mandated by Article 21 were followed.

“Consequently, the Ogun State Working Committee, by this letter, affirms and conveys its approval of the suspension of Mr. Abayomi Hunye.”

Recalled that the embattled APC Chieftain, Hunye was on February 20, 2026 sacked by Governor Dapo Abiodun as Chief Executive Officer of Ogun State Waste Management Agency (OGWAMA).

Hunye’s sack may not be unconnected with a series of allegations of extortion, high hardedness, diversion of public funds into his private account and abuse of office.

The development comes weeks after members of the Association of Waste Management Vendors and Recyclers of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, protested against Hunye, alleging high-handedness and extortion.

During the protest at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, the vendors wielded placards with inscriptions such as “Hunye must go” and “Gov Abiodun, rescue us.”

The protesters accused Hunye of imposing multiple levies and increasing licensing fees from N100,000 to N200,000, as well as introducing compulsory payments for workshops.

The Chairman of the association, Mrs Opeoluwa Balogun, said members had endured hardship under Hunye’s leadership and called on the governor to remove him.
