Outrage As Ogun’s Aircraft, Gateway Air Spotted Operating Domestic Flight in Angola
ABEOKUTA – The newly acquired Gateway Air aircraft has come under scrutiny after social media users spotted it operating a domestic flight in Angola, sparking questions about the airline’s route allocation.
X user @kayi20311 raised the issue in a post, questioning why the aircraft was operating within Angola rather than Nigeria, where the airline is based.
The post drew a wave of responses from other users, who clarified that the aircraft is operated by ValueJet, the airline managing Gateway Air’s flight operations on behalf of the Ogun State Government. They noted that aircraft operators are permitted to fly in any country where they hold the appropriate licensing and regulatory approval, regardless of the aircraft’s country of origin or ownership.
Gateway Air, which is owned by the Ogun State Government, was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in April alongside the Gateway International Airport in Iperu. ValueJet, a Lagos-based carrier, was brought in to manage technical operations, crewing, and regulatory compliance for the new airline.
As of press time, neither Gateway Air nor ValueJet has issued an official statement addressing the aircraft’s operations in Angola.

When contacted, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, explained that the aircraft is operated by ValuJet Nigeria, which also serves international routes.
According to him, the aircraft flies both local and regional routes.
