Nigeria’s Number One Squash Player, Adegoke Wins National Squash Championship In Abeokuta
ABEOKUTA – Onaopemipo Adegoke, number one Nigerian Squash player, has won the men’s 6th national squash championship for Delta state while Addulazeez Rofiat of Kwara state won the women category.
The competition final featured 172 players from across the country held in Abeokuta, on Saturday, the Ogun State capital.
Under the U16, girls Aishat Abdulraheem won against Zainab Ishola, and Abdulazeez Rofiat, representing Kwara state, beat Busayo Olatunji of the NSCDC 3 -1 in the women final.
For the U16 boys, Mathew Yusuf of Lagos State won 3-0 against Shuaib Giwa of Kwara State.
Onaopemipo Adegoke who based in the United States of America and represented Delta State, won against Olufunmilayo Gabriel who is represented NSCDC Men.
The competition was sponsored by Seagle Property Development, partnered with Ogun State Squash Association in Collaboration with the Nigeria Squash Federation.
Speaking with journalists, the sponsor of the tournament, Otunba Yemi Lawal stated that it was pertinent to discover young talents and nurture them in the limelight in squash games.
He assured that he would continue to sponsor the competition and support them academically.
Lawal also encouraged the government to leverage squash games, preparing them for the country in the next Olympic games.
Also, the Chairman of the Ogun State Squash Association Hon. Akeem Akingbade disclosed that squash is a game that encourages fitness.
He disclosed that the majority of people playing squash are trained in Ogun state, calling on the government to put more into squash games.
