Ogun 2027: APM Declares “Rescue Mission”, Offers Automatic Ticket For Current, Past Lawmakers
ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State chapter of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has announced what it described as a “rescue mission” aimed at reclaiming the state’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference held at the APM State Secretariat in Abeokuta on Monday, the party’s state chairman, Sanyaolu Abayomi, said the party is positioning itself as a credible alternative to what he called “political invaders” currently dominating the state’s governance.
According to Abayomi, serving and former members of the National Assembly, as well as current and former state lawmakers, may be offered automatic tickets to contest under the APM platform in 2027, where applicable.
Abayomi emphasized that the move aligns with preparations for the 2027 elections under Nigeria’s amended Electoral Act, noting that APM seeks to inspire both political actors and voters with “renewed hope.”
He expressed concern that Ogun State, once home to prominent figures such as Obafemi Awolowo, MKO Abiola, Ernest Shonekan, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, is experiencing a decline in political leadership quality.
“It is saddening that a state so richly blessed with visionary leaders is now facing avoidable political challenges,” he said.
The APM chairman called on indigenes and residents of Ogun State to join the party in what he described as a collective effort to prevent “political destruction and jeopardy.”
He added that the party’s doors remain open to individuals across political divides who are willing to align with its vision.
In a strategic move to strengthen its base, the party also announced incentives aimed at attracting experienced politicians.
The party leadership expressed optimism that the initiative would significantly reshape the political landscape in Ogun State ahead of the elections.
Abayomi further commended the APM national leadership, including chairman Yusuf Dantalle, for positioning the party as an appealing platform for Nigerians.
He also welcomed Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join APM, describing the party as “legally free from distractions.”
He concluded by expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, stating that APM is committed to prioritizing national progress and unity.
“The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) is ready to rescue Ogun State from the hands of Political invaders who are pretentiously parading themselves as the friends of the masses.
“It is on this note that the Leadership of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Ogun State is calling every true son and daughter of Ogun State to please come on board to join hands together with the party to rescue Ogun State from political destruction and avoidable jeopardy.
“In the next few days of the windows of political alignment and realignments, we are ready to welcome everyone with good intention to APM -The party ordained by God to rescue Ogun State.
“APM as a political platform belongs to all, therefore our doors are open to everyone to come in and participate in the process.”
