ABEOKUTA – A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kayode Oladele, has congratulated a former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba on his 87th birthday, describing him as an elder statesman whose contributions to journalism, politics and Nigeria’s democratic development remain remarkable.
Oladele, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said Osoba’s life represented decades of courage, public service and commitment to the development of Ogun State and Nigeria.
He noted that the former governor’s journey from the newsroom to the highest levels of public service was a testament to his resilience, dedication and pursuit of excellence.
According to Oladele, Osoba distinguished himself as one of Nigeria’s foremost journalists before entering public service, where he served as governor of Ogun State and subsequently became one of the leading figures in the country’s progressive political movement.
He said, “On behalf of my family and political associates, I warmly congratulate our highly respected leader and elder statesman, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, on the joyous occasion of his 87th birthday.
“At 87, Chief Osoba remains a towering figure in Nigerian journalism, politics and public service. His life is a remarkable story of courage, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to the ideals of democracy, good governance and service to humanity.
“As a journalist, he belonged to a generation that upheld the finest traditions of the profession. As governor of Ogun State, he served with distinction and left enduring footprints. As a political leader, his contributions to the progressive movement and the struggle for democracy in Nigeria have earned him a permanent place in the nation’s political history.”
Oladele also described the former governor as a father and mentor to generations of political leaders, saying his experience and understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape had continued to provide guidance to those who had the privilege of learning from him.
He added, “For us in Ogun State, we are particularly proud of his accomplishments and the dignity with which he has continued to represent our state on the national stage. Even at 87, his voice remains relevant and his counsel continues to command respect across political and professional divides.
“As he celebrates this significant milestone, I join his family, friends, associates, the good people of Ogun State and Nigerians at large in thanking Almighty God for the gift of his life and for the immense contributions he has made to our state and country.”
