We’ll Resist Any Attempt To Use Court To Frustrate Senator Yayi’s Ambition, NANS, NAOSS Warn Hunye

ABEOKUTA – The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC), have warned APC governorship aspirant, Hon. Abayomi Semako Hunye, against allegedly attempting to use the judiciary to frustrate the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

The student bodies said they would resist any political move capable of threatening the peace and stability of Ogun State, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had already settled for Adeola as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The warning was contained in a joint statement delivered at a press conference in Ogun State on Monday by the President of NAOSS, Comrade Olubodun Olalekan, and Chairman of NANS Ogun JCC, Comrade Habeeblahi Adekunle Tijani.

The groups described Hunye’s continued claim to the APC governorship ticket and his resort to legal action as an attempt to create confusion within the ruling party.

According to them, “The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has unanimously chosen and presented Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 poll.”

They said the decision was taken in the interest of party unity, continuity and development of the state, adding that Hunye should seek an alternative political platform if he remained dissatisfied with the APC’s decision.

The student leaders further alleged that Hunye was being used by “opposition elements within and outside the APC” to create political instability in Ogun State.

They also accused unnamed anti-party elements within the ruling party of working against Adeola’s emergence, linking the development to what they described as past political disagreements involving a former governor of the state.

The groups alleged that the former governor had previously been accused of working against Governor Dapo Abiodun’s re-election in 2023 and claimed that a recently leaked audio had raised fresh concerns about alleged plans to use litigation to frustrate Adeola’s governorship bid.

They warned Hunye against allowing himself to be used as “a sacrificial goat” by political actors allegedly seeking to cause division within the APC.

“We, the leaders of Apex student bodies in the state, warn Hunye in the strongest terms to desist from being a political nitwit,” the groups said, stressing that Ogun students and youths would not stand by while what they described as efforts to undermine the state’s political stability were carried out.

The organisations also invoked the historical role of Nigerian students in the struggle for democratic rule, saying students had participated actively in the campaign that led to the restoration of democracy in 1999.

They argued that the same commitment to democracy would compel students to oppose any attempt to undermine political stability through what they described as “political rascality.”

The groups further expressed support for Adeola, citing his alleged contributions to education development in Ogun State.

According to NAOSS and NANS JCC, the senator had facilitated projects in tertiary institutions and supported scholarships and empowerment initiatives targeted at students and young people.

While acknowledging the independence of the judiciary, the student bodies argued that court processes should not be used to create political instability.

“Let it also be stated for the record that Senator YAYI, as the bonafide APC governorship candidate, has facilitated several projects that have directly enhanced education development across Ogun State.

“From infrastructure in our tertiary institutions, to scholarships and empowerment programmes for students, his commitment to the future of Ogun youths is not in doubt. That is why we, the students, stand firmly with him.

“The amendments to the Electoral Act cannot be weaponized to justify political rascalty. Participation in campaign activities does not confer legitimacy on an illegitimate ambition. If Hunye is so desperate for power, we advise him to go and seek his governorship aspiration on the platform of another party. Or better still, he can join forces with other disgruntled elements and enemies of progress in the state.

“We believe in the judiciary, but we also believe in the supremacy of party decisions and the will of the people. Any attempt to use the courts to foment crisis will be resisted politically,” they declared.

The groups subsequently called on APC leaders and members, as well as residents of the state, to disregard Hunye’s claims and rally behind Adeola.
