Whereabouts Of Ogun PDP Youth Leader Unknown After APC Supporters Attacked Family In Abeokuta

ABEOKUTA – The whereabouts of Ogun PDP Youth Leader, Hon. Alhassan Ashimolowo remain unknown months after he was attacked by people suspected to be supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that some hoodlums suspected to be supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 5, 2023, stormed the premises of Isabo Magistrate court, the venue of Ogun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and allegedly launched attacks on the PDP members and their supporters.

Members and supporters of the PDP wanted to enter the court premises to witness the Tribunal sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, which commenced hearing of the petition filed by the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ladi Adebutu against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun when the assailants struck.

Al–Hassan, a father of three children: Al–Hassan Moyosore Oladipupo, – Al-Hassan Daniel Mofiyinfoluwa and Al-Hassan Peter Inioluwa through his wife, Mrs Al-Hassan Abosede Oyindamola, was said to be making attempt to enter the court through the entrance gate along with scores of other people but were prevented from gaining access to the premises by security operatives.

The armed security operatives, comprising the police, Department of State Service (DSS) and Civil Defence were said to have dispersed the rowdy crowd of party supporters and barricaded the road leading to the court, preventing vehicular movement on Isabo-Kuto Road.

Witnesses said some of the PDP members and leaders, including Al – Hassan Bukola Ashimolowo, however, tried again to enter the court premises but people wielding canes and sticks stopped them and in the ensuing argument, Al – Hassan, a PDP Youth leader from Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state was beaten by suspected hoodlums believed to be hirelings of the main political party in the state.

Multiple sources also said a former Governorship Aspirant of PDP, Chief Segun Showunmi was also harassed when he attempted to enter the court premises on the grounds that he was a major stakeholder and ought to be in court to witness the Tribunal proceedings.

It was learnt that days later, Al–Hassan’s wife and sons were attacked while they were returning from the market and the attackers poured some liquid substance on them but while others ducked in good time when they saw the strange substance thrown at them, Daniel was not lucky – the liquid substance poured on his leg.

According to the sources, Daniel was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Idi–Aba, Abeokuta where he spent two weeks at the Specialist hospital receiving treatment before he was discharged.

However, since the dastard incident on his family members, the whereabouts of the PDP youth leader, Alhassan Ashimolowo remain unknown and calls for concern by friends, family members and associates.

When our reporter visited his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, the gatehouse was under lock.

When contacted for his reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola said no official complaint yet from the party or his family members.

The Police spokesperson said until official complaint is lodged at the police headquarters, she cannot comment further.
