Tinubu Includes Segun Showunmi in APC Presidential Campaign Media Directorate

ABEOKUTA – Segun Showunmi has reportedly been included in the media and strategic communication directorate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Showunmi’s name was contained in a revised membership list released on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Showunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, previously served as spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who contested against Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
Until recently, he was the convener of The Alternative Movement, a national opposition platform positioned as an alternative voice in Nigeria’s political space.
His reported inclusion in Tinubu’s campaign structure is likely to attract attention across the political landscape, given his background in the PDP and his previous role in Atiku’s presidential campaign.
The media and strategic communication directorate is responsible for coordinating campaign messaging, managing media engagements and communicating the party’s policies, activities and positions to the public.
President Tinubu had earlier approved the campaign council, with former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari appointed as Director-General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma named as secretary.
In the original list released on August 22, 2026, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris was named Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication, alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
Other officials named as coordinating deputy directors in the initial media structure included Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka.
Segun Dada was also named Director of New Media, a position he held during the 2022/2023 presidential campaign.
Showunmi’s reported inclusion is noteworthy given his experience in political communication and his active participation in national political discourse. He has frequently highlighted the importance of effective messaging in political leadership.
The development comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with intensified efforts to communicate their records, policies and campaign messages to Nigerians.
